Our History:

Northland Christian Church has a rich heritage in north Topeka. Now, more than 120 years later, our ministry has expanded to all areas of Topeka and the surrounding communities.

The Christian Church in North Topeka began in 1887 as a Sunday School. In 1889, following an evangelistic meeting, a church was organized. The first permanent building, at the corner of Central Avenue and Grant Street, was dedicated in 1894. The congregation became Central Avenue Christian Church. The building survived the 1903 flood but was flooded again in 1951; this time it sustained heavy damage.

The church moved from its original location in North Topeka and changed its name from Central Avenue Christian Church to Northland Christian Church, but the purpose remained the same: Win the lost to Christ – Train the believers to become disciples – Send the disciples out to win others to Christ. We purchased the land at our current location, 3102 NW Topeka Blvd, in 1964. With much prayer, hard work and sacrifice, the first building on this property was dedicated in 1965.  Today, this building serves as the location for the Northland Christian Church Day Care Center.

A new worship center was dedicated in 1972. In addition, a multiplex gym was constructed in 1978. Another expansion joined the existing worship center with the multiplex in 1988. Northland continued to grow and completed a Christian education and office complex in 1993.

In 2007, Northland once again expanded its facility by adding a new worship center. We are still able to view the cross of this facility from Topeka Blvd as a reminder that we exist to bring glory to the Lord in Topeka and the surrounding area.
