Northland's Prayer Filled Response to Haiti
When tragedy strikes, there is no better time for the Church as a family to respond showing Christ’s love and compassion. Following devastating earthquakes in Haiti, there have been global outcries for assistance to the island nation. Unfortunately, both communications and infrastructure have been impacted in ways that prevent aid from arriving on the scale necessary to address the extreme poverty, and in many cases, homelessness and despair of the Haitian people. Northland believes that part of our calling is to convey the love of Christ to people in their time of need. What follows are several opportunities to give to ministries directly connected to the ongoing relief effort. Please pray for healing and safety for impacted families and stay tuned for future updates as we learn more about ways to give.
1. Yves Prophete, a Manhattan Christian College classmate of RD and Natalie, is currently involved in a mission in Port Au Prince. Yves and his family are Haitian and have direct connection to mission organizations and ministries across the area rocked by the earthquake. At this point physical needs are largely unknown but we are gathering financial support for Yves. To contribute, make your check to Northland Christian Church and note Yves Prophete in the memo line and place it in the offering plate.
2. Ben and Nicole (Hersh) Long (Tim and Denise Hersh's daughter/son-in-law) are directly connected to missions work in Haiti and have provided the following information: Global Vision Citadelle Ministries / www.gvcm.org
They are asking people to:
A. Pray - James 5:16 states, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Prayer is not a throw away. It's primary. God can do more through your intercession than we can imagine.
B. Stay Informed – Updates will be continually posted on the organizations blog or you can signup for e-mail updates.
C. Donate by going to their website. Many churches in our area are directly tied in to this ministry.
3. Other trusted organizations and ministries:
A. World Vision
B. Compassion International
